R/V Celtic Explorer Cruise 19016, 26 August to 17 September 2019

The twenty-second BSH North Sea Summer Survey: Oceanographic measurements along seven East -West sections from coast to coast between 54°N and 60°N, in the Skagerrak, in the Pentland Firth, and in the Northern Minch between Scotland and the Outer Hebrides.

Ten scientists, 15 crewmembers, 100 sampling stations, 23 days non-stop around the clock. The first days in high-summer weather, later along the northern sections, in stormy seas. But we also experienced wonderful delicate cloud formations, especially at sundown, the dramatic approach of bad weather fronts with clouds looking like mountains, the rough steep coasts of the Scottish Highlands, the Orkneys and Shetlands, seabirds, whales and much more.
